Bed 4 was created in 2005 around an existing cherry tree. The bed is triangular, north-facing and backed by the garage wall. Attempts to grow hollyhock and lavender there have been only partially successful since the amount of daytime sun is limited. Iris, on the other hand, have prospered and it has proven one of the few places that I can raise wallflowers from seed without rabbits attacking them. Bed 4 is being developed with cooler colours and uses plants that prefer the light shade offered by the cherry tree.
